Proposition 36

The Substance Abuse and Crime Prevention Act of 2000 otherwise known as Proposition 36 or "Prop. 36" (Prop. 36) is a form of alternative sentencing for those convicted of simple drug possession that did not involve violence and certain other enumerated offenses. The program allows the qualifying individuals convicted of drug possession, an opportunity to be involved in a drug program and without incarceration. This can be a great alternative for individuals who cannot go to jail to do job and/or family commitments and want a chance to get treatment and better themselves.
